Jerilderie Letter shows courage to win Tasmanian Derby

Feb 05, 2016

STAR Tasmanian three-year-old Jerilderie Letter had to call on all of his fighting qualities to score a narrow but courageous win in the $100,000 Schweppes Tasmanian Derby au UBET Park Hobart today.

Jerilderie Letter ran down race leader Al Shameel and looked set to win comfortably before the Darren Weir-trained Howard Be Thy Name stormed into contention and hit the front 100 metres from home.

But Trinder’s horse refused to wilt and fought back to score by a neck in what was one of the most inspiring wins ever seen in the classic race.
