Jerilderie Letter Derby bound

Jan 09, 2016

TALENTED three-year-old Jerilderie Letter stamped himself as a genuine Tasmanian Derby prospect with an impressive win in the $100,000 Kevin Sharkie Tasmania Guineas over 1600 metres at UBET Park Hobart yesterday.

With Anthony Darmanin in the saddle he was slow to begin and when he mustered speed to improve he was stymied when the field jammed up and he was again spat out the back.

Darmanin settled him on the rails but worse than midfield from three he had to be ridden for luck.

His archrival Gee Gees Top Notch enjoyed a cosy run on the back of the leader and when the field wheeled for home that filly looked set to battle out the finish with The Master Speed.

But under strong riding Jerilderie Letter powered home and hit the line a short half-head clear of Gee Gees Top Notch with The Master Speed only a neck away third.
