|The sensational filly, now the winner of her past five starts, should have today earned a wildcard spot in the $5 million All Star Mile at Flemington in two weeks time with a breakthrough Group One triumph.Sent out the second favourite, Mystic Journey sat just off the speed from the inside gate before coming with a brilliant sprint in the straight for the easiest of Group One wins. The win was a breakthrough for Mystic Journey, her trainer Adam Trinder, jockey Anthony Darmanin and sire Needs Further – all now Group One winners.|
Trinder has incredible faith in the filly and was the proudest man on course after the Guineas.
“We bought her as a nice little cheap filly that we thought would do the job for us,” Trinder said. “Never in our wildest of dreams did we think we would be in a Group One.”
“When I legged Anthony on I said ‘trust her’ and I knew she’d be there for him when he required her to be and she was,” he added.
A winner of a number of group races, this was Anthony Darmanin’s first Group One win and he was over the moon.
“It’s unbelievable, I can’t believe it,” Darmanin said. “I never thought I would get a ride in a Group One, so to win one, I can’t thank Adam enough.”
“She’s the Winx of Tasmania,” Darmanin added while saying Mystic Journey would “be winning” the All-Star Mile on the strength of her Guineas success.
Mystic Journey raced clear late in the race to beat early leader Hawkshot by a widening two and a quarter length margin, while Adelaide Yearling Sale buy Amphitrite was third home.
The winner had won her previous four starts including her most recent success over Tassie warhorse Hellova Street at weight-for-age at Hobart.
Mystic Journey, a daughter of Armidale Stud’s Tasmanian sire sensation Needs Further, was an $11,000 buy for her trainer on behalf of owner Wayne Roser from Armidale at the 2017 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.
The bonny young galloper has seen her earnings soar past $1 million.
Mystic Journey is a three quarter sister to Mystical Pursuit, another by Encosta de Lago’s group winning son Needs Further, who is also owned by Wayne Roser after being purchased at the Tasmanian Yearling Sale by Adam Trinder Racing.
Mystical Pursuit is unbeaten in four starts in Tasmania including the stakes double of the Elwick Stakes and Gold Sovereign Stakes.
