Caesar’s Quest wins maiden/class1 Launceston 13/02

Feb 21, 2019

Caesar’s Quest had the inside draw and kicked up to hold a position from the gates, before being headed by Princess of York who went to the front from wider. Lord Derby was over-racing for Shuji Amano and eventually went forward to sit outside the lead. The overall time for the race was about 2 lengths slower than the other 1600m race which finished the night.

The Adam Trinder trained pair in Caesar’s Quest and Secret Gold both had good market support to start equal $4 favourites, and the money was on the mark with the stable having the quinella in the race. Caesar’s Quest was always travelling sweetly for Chris Graham who used the 3yo gelding’s draw and early speed to land in a forward position. Graham eased off the fence at the right time to get around the weakening leaders but rolled back to the fence in the home straight and had enough in store to hold off the stablemate. Caesar’s Quest has been a different horse away from the Synthetic this prep and continues to improve each race start.
