Stayer heading in right direction

Feb 15, 2018

Promising stayer Bidirectional earned ballot-free entry into the Launceston Cup with his win at Mowbray on Wednesday night but trainer Adam Trinder is not convinced the gelding is quite up to that standard.

“He’s probably a grade below and I think the St Leger is a more winnable target for him,” Trinder said.

“But the way he won I don’t think I could recommend to his owner (Catherine Hills) not to run him in the Launceston Cup.

”He’d definitely run top-eight 8 so he’d earn prizemoney.

“And it might be a good platform to get him towards the St Leger which is over 2600m.”

The $250,000 Launceston Cup is on February 28 and the $25,000 St Leger on March 14.

Trinder didn’t win either of the Magic Millions races on Wednesday night but dominated the program.

Bidirectional was only one of four winners – he also scored with Steel Dan, Boltoutoftheblue and Silver Bolt.
