Mercury Queen makes good on debut effort

Jul 31, 2016

LIGHTLY raced four-year-old mare Mercury Queen made good on the promise she offered on debut by scoring a narrow but impressive win in the Race Replays Maiden over 1150 metres on the Luxbet All Weather Devonport.

Mercury Queen debuted two weeks earlier on the all-weather for a close second and while she was again slowly away apprentice rider Kyle Maskiell allowed her to find her stride and when he needed to get off the rail he eased her three-wide to challenge and the daughter of Any Given Saturday did the rest.

Mercury Queen, prepared at Spreyton by Adam Trinder, went on to defeat Island Tiger by almost a half-length with race leader Highly Leveraged almost two lengths astern.
