Owners of Tasmanian galloper Jerilderie Letter reject $400,000 offer

May 14, 2016

The owners of Tasmanian Derby winner Jerilderie Letter have rejected a $400,000 offer from Hong Kong for the star three-year-old.

However they haven’t completely ruled out selling if the prospective buyers raise their bid.

Barry Diprose, who owns one of 10 shares in the gelding, said he had been waiting for a long time to get a horse as good as Jerilderie Letter and he wasn’t keen to part with him.

“Like the other owners, I’m in it for the love of racing,’’ Diprose said.

“You can’t put a price on the enjoyment you get out of it but it would be more than the $40,000 we’d each get if we sold.

“And, it is only their first offer, so you never know.’’

Jerilderie Letter is trained by Adam Trinder, who is also a shareholder, and has won six of his seven starts including three $100,000 races.

He cost $11,000 as a yearling and has already returned $223,000
